About the Event

The fifth annual Over The Edge event, hosted by the United Way of Northern New York, is YOUR opportunity to bring critical change to communities throughout the North Country.  100% of the proceeds from this event supports the UWNNY's community impact program, which is attacking problems at the individual town and village level through leadership, training and funding of nonprofits. 

High School Challenge

  • All high schools in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties have been invited to participate.
  • Schools have been place in one of three divisions based on student population in grades 9-12.
  • There is a $50 registration fee, which goes toward the rappeller's $500 minimum to go Over The Edge.
  • The three high school division winners that raise the most money through their rappeller(s) receive two $500 scholarships for 2 students in the Class of 2020.

United Way Partner Challenge

  • All nonprofit partners of the UWNNY are eligible to participate.
  • There is a $50 registration fee, which goes toward the nonprofit's $750 minimum to go Over The Edge.
  • The first $750 from each rappeller or team supports UWNNY's community impact program. All monies raised over $750 goes directly to the nonprofit organization. 

Team Challenge (4 Rappellers per Team)

  • Teams must consist of 4 rappellers.
  • Each individual rappeller must sign up individually, then join their team. The $50 registration fee is applied toward the team's minimum of $2,000 to go Over The Edge.
  • Each team must raise a combined minimum of $2,000 to go Over The Edge.

Community Challenge Program

  • There is a $50 registration fee, which goes toward the rappeller's $750 minimum to go Over The Edge.
  • Competitions between different organizations (fire departments, police departments, churches and other social groups) will receive special marketing and recognition!

Notes, Terms & Conditions

  • Each rappeller and team will have a customizable donation page to have their donors sign up to support them!
  • Rappellers must be over the age of fourteen (14) on the date of the event and weigh between 100 and 300 pounds to be eligible to participate.
  • All rappellers will be assigned a report time approximately one hour prior to their rappel time.
  • All equipment is provided and training will be given on the roof prior to your rappel. 
  • Rappellers must wear hiking shoes or tennis shoes.  No sandals permitted.
  • Each rappeller receives a commemorative t-shirt after completing the rappel.

On Target


Rappelers will be given a time between 8 am and 5 pm on June 6, 2020 to arrive at Midtown Towers for equipment fitting and training. Costumes and crazy team uniforms are highly encouraged!


The event will be held at Midtown Towers at the corner of State and Mechanic streets in Watertown. Experience 155 feet of sheer, vertical wall!


At the United Way of NNY we look for the abilities in everyone, even those with disabilities.  Rich Fabend who has been confined to a wheelchair for 19 years has gone Over The Edge!
